Corvettes come back to life in the HSR Classic 24 at Daytona
The HSR Daytona Classic 24, that peaked in 2019, features sprint races leading up to the 24-hour enduro consisting of 6 groups that run in 4 stages starting at noon on Saturday and ending at noon on Sunday.
Wally and Kevin Owens ran the enduro group F in their # 09 Troy Flis Dallara chassis C7 2014 DPi, winning their class. They finished mid-pack in the prototype challenge sprint race.
Chris Liebenberg and Steve Schuler ran the enduro group E in their # 57 2005 C6 Grand Am Corvette, finishing third in class.
Robert Tornello in his # 90 Dallara chassis 2014 C7 DPi (a sister car) also ran in the prototype challenge sprint race and finished mid-pack.
Kevin Owens and his # 12 Protofab 1987 IMSA GTO Corvette qualified first but trouble dashed their hopes for the group 8 sprint race and the Group F enduro with Nigel Greensal.
Bob Lima in his # 33 1969 C3 Corvette won his class in the group 5 sprint race.
Cord Kisthardt in his # 69 1968 C3 Corvette was several ticks off and finished second in class.
Bill Treffert in his # 24 1960 solid axle Corvette won as the lone entry in his group 2 class while his son Todd, a pro-class talent, raced a fearsome Nissan GTR and a Porsche in several other races.
We uphold ourselves to keep track of Corvettes vs an onslaught of Porsches, going back to the mid-1970s when Porsche enthusiast Joe Pendergast founded HSR.
