TF Sport Corvettes advance at Fuji in the chase for the WEC title
Charlie Eastwood, Salih Yoluc and Peter Dempsey in the TF team turkey # 34 ZO6 GT3.R finished 3rd in the 6-hour race in Japan.
That result vaulted the team from eighth to third in LMGT3 class standings with 2 races to go.
Nicky Catsburg, Jonny Edgar and Ben Keating in the TF team Keating # 33 ZO6 GT3.R finished 5th. That result grew their lead in the standings with 2 races to go.
The drivers credited both of their cars for handling extremely well during fog and heavy rain that pelted Fuji Speedway throughout the day.
Yoluc, starting 8th got bumped and fell back to 15th but got hooked up to hand off to Dempsey in the lead pack a bit more than 2 hours into the race.
While Keating, starting 10th handed off to Edgar just shy of the two-hour mark.
Both teams made their final driver changes during a virtual safety car period with 1 hour and 40 minutes to the end. The big gamble, called by the drivers, was to take fuel only and double stint the tires which put them in the lead with 20 minutes to go. Ultimately, they fell back to other cars with fresher tires but that gutsy decision turned out not that costly.
Darren Leung, Sean Gelael and Augusto Farfus in the WRT Team # 32 BMW M4 GT3 EVO won the LMGT3 class covering 187 laps on the 2.835-mile circuit located about 62 miles southwest of Tokyo.
To inspire the team, the creative folks at TF Sport dreamed up these ninja warrior helmets.
The WEC picks up next in Spain on Sunday, October 18 at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
