Pratt & Miller # 4 Corvette poised to secure title with 2nd place finish at INDY
Tommy Milner and Nicky Catsburg in the Pratt & Miller # 4 Z06 GT3.R Corvette finished 2nd in the GTD PRO class after 3 hours of racing, completing 105 laps on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway 2.439-mile road course on Sunday Sept 19.
Starting from the front row, Milner & Catsburg now hold the lead over Neil Verhagen and Connor De Phillippi in the Paul Miller Racing # 1 BMW M4 GT3 EVO that finished 6th heading into to the season finale at Road Atlanta.
Catsburg was gunning for the win but wisely heeded orders to back off in a race where pit strategy (vs outright speed) mattered most.
Dennis Olsen, paired with Ben Barker in the Ford Racing # 64 Ford Mustang GT3 climbed all the way from 8th to cross the finish line first and win the TireRack.com Battle on the Bricks.
Antonio Garcia and Alexander Sims, starting 10th in the Pratt & Miller # 3 Z06 GT3R Corvette finished 4th in a crazy turn of events.
Mayhem near the end, including a full course yellow, allowed Sims to gain 6 spots, without passing a single car due to fuel stops, contact and penalties by others.
Orey Fidani and Matt Bell in the Team 13 Autosport # 13 Z06 GT3.R Corvette finished a remarkable 3rd in the GTD class. Starting 7th and thanks to Bell’s acumen and the crew for jumping a few cars on pit row, the team now leads the Bob Akin Award standings and an automatic invite to Le Mans in 2027.
Giacomo Altoé and Casper Stevenson in the Team Dragonspeed # 81 Z06 GT3.R Corvette finished 4th in GTD, matching their best result of the season.
Mason Filippi and Robert Wickens in the DXDT Racing # 36 Z06 GT3.R Corvette was running good until it took a hit from an LMP2 car that cost them 4 laps to repair a toe link. Filippi survived a second hit by another LMP2 car before Wickens took over with 50 minutes remaining and finished 12th in GTD.
Winning the GTD PRO class title boils down to 10 hours of racing on Saturday October 3 before a packed house in the Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta vs empty grandstands at the hulking Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
