Ross Chouest holds his own in SRO GT America races in Texas

Ross Chouest in his # 50 Z06 GT3.R Corvette finished 3rd and 5th in 40-minute sprint races at Circuit of the Americas in Austin TX.

On Saturday Chouest was 5 seconds behind the winner and reached the podium via a penalty to Scott Blind in the # 45 Ruckus Racing Porshe Porsche 911 GT3R (992).

On Sunday, wishful thinking, had he been able to maintain his fastest time over 19 laps of the 3.43-mile course, he would have won it all.

All told, Chouest held his own against Six Ferraris and Four Porsches among 15 cars in the SRO3 class.

Victory both days went to Memo Gidley in his # 56 Audi R8 LMS GT3 EVO II driving for the SKI Racing team owned by Corvette stalwarts Kent & Melissa Hussey.

While not a “household name”, Ross Chouest has raced in the Ferrari Challenge series and was the GT4 SRO WC America champ in the GMG team Audi R8 in 2022.  The means to join a select group of teams racing the Z06 GT3.R Corvette stems from Edison Chouest Offshore, a $ 2 BN marine logistics company that operates over 200 vessels serving oil, gas and wind power in the Gulf of Mexico.

The sprint races livened up an agenda consisting of 3-hour endurance races staged each day.

The next outing is at Sebring on May 8-10.
