Steller Motorsport # 24 Corvette flounders in SRO WC Europe opener in France
Max Daymond, manager of the UK-based Steller Motorsport, recruited three new drivers to contest the SRO WC Europe series that opened on April 9.
The # 24 Z06 GT3.R Corvette, led by the Dennis Lind, a former Lambo driver who comes from Denmark (center flanked by Antoine Doquin and Lorenzo Fluxa) never got up to pace. They were 3 laps behind the leaders who completed 176 laps on the 3.64-mile Circuit Paul Ricard.
They were classified second (out of five cars for gold rated drivers) and thirty-eighth overall amongst a huge field of fifty-nine cars (pro, gold, silver and bronze rated).
The race drew a crowd of nearly 38,000 to the first-class track situated in the southwestern corner of France.
The # 007 Comtoyou Racing team Aston Martin AMR GT3 Evo of Nicki Thiim, Marco Sørensen and Mattia Drudi was the surprise winner over the # 48 Mercedes-AMG Team Mann-Filter squad that started from pole; and led until the final 10 minutes of the 6-hour race that got bunched up by the Safety car in the late going.
A lot of work lies ahead.
