DXDT Corvette storms to victory and runner-up in SRO America at Barber Motorsports Park
Blake McDonald and Matt Bell in the # 11 Z06 GT3.R Corvette made their mark on Saturday and Sunday in 90-minute weekend races named the UAB Medicine GT World Alabama benefiting the Teal Wings of Hope.
On Saturday, Blake McDonald pitted early and handed over to Matt Bell who fought his way to second place in the ProAm class in the closing stages.
Robby Foley won the race in the Turner Motorsport # 29 BMW M4 GT3 EVO.
Ross Chouest spun his # 50 Chouest Racing Z06 GT3.R twice, triggering full course yellow flags that led to furious racing during the final hour. Co-driver Aaron Povoledo finished in ninth place.
The best was yet to come on Sunday. Blake McDonald, taking over for Matt Bell passed a McLaren and a Porsche in the final 30 minutes to claim victory. Per Bell, “It was Blake’s best drive all season and a testament to never say never.”
The Chouest Povelodo team fared no better, again finishing ninth in ProAm, one lap short of 65 laps completed over the scenic 2.38-mile Barber Motorsports Park located outside of Birmingham AL.
