Corvettes win SRO and SRO GT America Crown Coins Casino World races at Road America

Sunday August 17 was a day to cheer for fans about Corvette performance on the epic 4-mile Road America circuit just outside of Elkhart Lake WI.

Blake McDonald and Matt Bell won the 60-minute race 2 of the SRO America Pro Am class in the # 11 DXDT Z06 GT3.R

Pro Matt Bell led overall before handing off to Blake McDonald who kept the lead until a full course caution bunched up the field.  McDonald won a wild dash against Justin Rothberg in the # 29 Turner Motorsport BMW M4 GT3 EVO. McDonald later quipped “ SRO race officials couldn't make it easy, they had to throw that yellow at the end and “I’m really glad for the team.”

Later that day, Ross Chouest won the 50-minute SRO GT America race 2 in the Chouest Povelodo # 50 Z06 GT3.R

Polesitter Memo Gidley # 56 SKI Autosport Audi R8 LMS GT3 EVOII tangled with Kyle Washington # 32 GMG Racing Porsche 992 GT3 R sending both cars reeling while Washington rejoined in third.  Chouest maintained his composure while battles raged behind to score his first GT America win of the season.

The previous day, Saturday August 16 was a completely different story. Thunderstorms forced officials to stop the race 5 laps shy of completion. The DXDT team was scored runner up in Pro Am, at the expense of the # 29 Turner Motorsport of Justin Rothberg and Robbie Foley BMW M4 GT3 EVO that was penalized for violating “sporting regulations.”

Polesitter Philip Ellis and Jeff Burton built a cushion in the # 91 Regulator Racing Team Mercedes-AMG GT3 and led when both the red (and checker) flags flew.

Ross Chouest again laid back while drivers battling behind on a slippery track opened a path to 2nd place in the 50-minute race that SRO officials reluctantly flagged off under full course caution for 22 minutes before releasing the field with 28 minutes remaining.

Veteran Memo Gidley in the # 56 SKI Autosport Audi R8 LMS GT3 EVOII controlled the pace under treacherous conditions on a wet track shrouded by low visibility. (SKI stands for Some Kid’s Inheritance!)
