Team TF Sport Corvettes finish 6th & 7th in WEC 6-hour race at Imola

TF Sport fielded 2 Corvettes in the second round of the World Endurance Championship Series (WEC) at the 3.1-mile Imola circuit in the San Marino district of Italy.

The # 81 Z06 GT3.R piloted by Charlie Eastwood (IR), Rui Andrade (AGO) and Tom Van Rompuy (Bel) qualified 10th and gained 4 spots to finish 6th in the LM GT3 class that counted 18 cars.

The # 33 Z06 GT3.R, piloted by Ben Keating (USA), Jonny Edgar (UK) and Daniel Juncadella (SP) qualified 16th and gained 9 spots to finish 7th.

A mistake-free performance over 6 hours and exploiting others in some hard-fought battles are what mattered at the end as neither Corvette had the outright speed to win in the wake of the # 33 Corvette victory in the season opener at Qatar.

The LM GT3 class winner was the # 92 Porsche 911 GT3.R fielded by Team Manthey, last year’s WEC champ.

The # 51 Ferrari Hybrid Prototype was the overall winner to the delight of the Ferrari crowd, a/k/a the Tifosi.

The track is named for Ayrton Senna, one of the greatest F1 drivers who was killed at Imola on May 1, 1994.

The WEC series moves on to the Six Hours of Spa on Saturday, May 10.
