A downer weekend for Corvettes on the of the Streets of Long Beach
The spotlight was on Robert Wickens sharing the # 36 DXDT Corvette with ace Tommy Milner from the Pratt & Miller team for the 100-minute IMSA GTD race at Long Beach on April 12, 2025. INDY cars have been the mainstay of this popular event, marking its 50th anniversary.
Once an INDY car driver himself, Robert, paralyzed from the waist down crash from a crash at Pocono in 2018, made a courageous comeback in the Corvette equipped with Bosch electronic hand controls.
Robert moved up to sixth in his 35-minute stint before Milner took over.
Tommy caught up with the leaders but by his own reconing, got a bit too aggressive, tangling with Robby Foley in the Turner Motorsport # 96 BMW M4 GT3 Evo. Watch it unravel here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9Cfc_ni75Y
The result was 15th place (next-to-last) and a lap down to the winning AO team # 177 Porsche 911 GT3.R (992) a/k/a T-Rexy.
The confines of Long Beach never cease to claim their share of victims.
The AWA team # 13 Z06 GT3.R Corvette finished 13th after Orey Fidani got bumped into the barriers by Misha Goikhberg in the Team Forte # 78 Lambo Huracan GT3 EVO2.
DXDT also entered its # 11 Z06 GT3.R Corvette for Blake McDonald in the SRO WC America 40-minute sprint races (consisting of 30 laps) on Saturday and Sunday. He finished 7th both days, one the result of a penalty after starting up front.
Chouest Povoledo, a new Corvette team having switched from Mercedes AMG, entered the # 50 Z06 GT3.R Corvette in which Ross Chouest finished 5th each day.
Mishu Motors entered the # 70 Callaway C7 GT3.R Corvette in which veteran Mirco Schultis finished 3rd on Saturday but fell out on lap 7 to finish 12th and last on Sunday.
Turner Motorsports entered the # 29 BMW M4 GT3 Evo in which Justin Rothberg was unbeatable all weekend.
