Trans Am Road Atlanta

It’s Amy Ruman again, this time at Road Atlanta

Nobody questions her ability.  Yet looking at the last 2 seasons, Trans-Am winners are mostly from teams fielded by Jim Derhaag or Tony Ave.   Two-time champ Doug Peterson when asked about his chances at Sebring remarked, “Amy is fast but at the end, I expect to win the race”.

Now counting last year’s finale, Amy Ruman has won 4 straight races at legendary circuits like Daytona, Sebring and Road Atlanta.   They differ widely so drivers need to adapt quickly to win.

Derhaag and Ave run businesses that design and build complete Trans Am Corvette packages.  Bought new, the cars alone are estimated at upwards of $ 300,000.  Customers are competitive drivers with the resources to also pay for transport and full time crew at the races.

Ruman Racing is a family operation in Kent OH headed by patriarch former Trans Am racer Bob Ruman.  Amy’s current car is a C6 GT1/TA they found, bought, prepared and set up within their budget.  Results indicate they have a great engine builder.  The sponsor McNichols, is a family related company that distributes and sells commercial metals products across the country.

Amy Ruman passed pole sitter Paul Fix early and was never challenged for the win.

The Trans-am has improved by leaps and bounds in PR and social media.  Thanks for timely posting results and photos by Chris Clark.   Foametix stepped up for the Sebring and Road Atlanta races, represented here by PR Ashley VanDyke.

The next Trans Am race is May 23 at Lime Rock Park, a tight historic circuit just 1.5 miles long nestled in the hills of NW Connecticut.
