TF Sport # 34 Team Turkey Corvette wins WEC 6-hour race in Brazil
Charlie Eastwood led team mates Salih Yuloc and Peter Dempsey to the LMGT3 class victory in the # 34 Z06 GT3.R Corvette on July 12 at the tricky 2.677- mile Interlagos circuit in Sao Paolo.
Starting tenth on the grid, Yuloc, a native of Turkey, quickly worked his way up 7 spots to third place by the fifth lap. This is mind-blowing!
Dempsey gained the lead and drove the most stints in the middle part of the race, helped by pit strategy that happened to prove favorable.
Eastwood got in for the final two race stints with a fuel advantage. While a puncture forced an earlier than planned final stop, his new tires and a fuel top-off were just what the doctor ordered to hold off Dan Harper in the WRT Team # 69 BMW M4 GT3 EVO.
Ben Keating led team mates Johnny Edgar and Nico Varrone (standing in for Nicky Catsburg who was in Canada racing for Pratt & Miller IMSA GTD PRO) to finish eighth in the # 33 TF Sport Z06 GT3.R Corvette.
Starting twelfth on the grid and like their victorious teammates, the trio drove mistake-free the whole way way to earn valuable points despite carrying a significant amount of success ballast due to winning Le Mans.
TF Sport Corvette drivers Johnny Edgar, Nicky Catsburg and Ben Keating sit first, second and third in the Drivers’ Championship before the WEC series resumes on Sept 6 at Circuit of the Americas. Pretty impressive against an 18 LMGT3 car field consisting of Aston Martin, BMW, McLaren, Mercedes AMG, Ferrari, Ford, Lexus and Porsche.
