Corvettes from 2 generations finish mid-pack at Sebring SRO GT America
Ross Chouest, # 50 Z06 GT3.R finished 4th in the 40-minute sprint race on Saturday May 9 under extreme sun and heat that affected drivers, crews and crowds throughout the weekend.
He edged past Mirco Schultus, Mishu Motors # 70 Callaway Corvette C7 GT3 who finished 5th.
Tony Davis, # 04 HP-TECH Motorsport Ferrari 296 GT3 EVO started from pole and won the race against 9 other cars in the SRO3 class.
Chouest finished 5th the following day, fighting off Scott Blind in the # 45 Ruckus Racing Porsche 911 GT3-R but falling short of Marc Muzzo in the # 013 R. Ferri Motorsport Ferrari 296 GT3.
Meanwhile, Schultis who was also in the hunt, finished 7th having gone off track in a mid-pack battle.
Memo Gidley # 56 SKI Autosports Audi R8 LMS GT3 EVOIII got the jump and went on to win after a freak spin by John Manship in the # 216 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3-R on the formation lap (cold tires?) brought out the caution flag at the start.
This season marks the farewell tour for the # 70 C7R-GT3 chassis 001 built by Callaway Competition in 2015. It would be a treat to see Schultis, age 60 doing vintage events where Chas Wicht has been racing # 26 C7R-GT3 chassis 002 built in 2016.
In contrast, many more years lie ahead in Pro racing for Ross Chouest, age 45, and his # 50 C8 Z06 GT3.R built in 2024.
SRO GT America travels to Road Atlanta on June 12-14.
