Hats off to Solid Axle Corvettes at the 2026 Greenwich Concours
Hats off to Solid Axle Corvettes at the Greenwich Concours at Roger Sherman Park on Saturday May 30, 2026. It was a rare chance to visit with owners of Corvettes who drive them on the road. Compared with those strictly for judging by the National Corvette Restorers Society (NCRS).
Judges from Hagerty chose this 1961 Fuelie in Honduras maroon with appearance and driving in mind.
According to owner Peter Martin who found it 5 years ago, it has a 327 (vs 283) cu in engine, thin-wall headers hooked up to a custom exhaust. The fuel injection unit has a unique dual cranking signal device.
The Solid Axle Corvette Club (SACC) was established in 1993 to help folks be drive and enjoy these relics then reaching 30 to 40 years of age. Changing times and aging owners have caused the club to call it quits. More background for the curious via these links.

This 1962 Corvette is a big brake fuelie that John Valvo has owned for 8 years.
This 1962 fuelie is owned by Alan Matzkin who has had it for 23 years.
This 1958 high-performance 270 hp has been owned by Robert Schumacher for 2 years.
And this 1959 high-performance 270 hp has been owned by Brian Scuderi for 6 years.
The time arrived 8 years ago for me, a long-time member of the SACC and the NCRS, to update this 1960 fuelie I’ve owned for 62 years. Upgrades for drivability include electric power steering, front disc brakes, alternator and electronic ignition.
Thoughts and comments are always welcome.
