Mediocre Results for Steller Racing # 24 Corvette in Italy

The UK-based Steller Racing team # 24 Z06 GT3.R Corvette came away with mediocre results in the SRO WC 3-hour race over the May 30-31 weekend at Monza.

Starting 34th, the # 24 got shuffled on lap 1, escaped damage and continued without further incident.

Drivers Antoine Doquin, Dennis Lind and Mikkel Mac finished 26th among 59 cars overall; and 4th among 8 cars in the gold class.

The culprit was Maxime Martin in the # 17 GetSpeed Mercedes-AMG who collected a dozen cars by rejoining the race in the heat of the moment after running wide in turn 1.  Another crash near the end brought the race to a close under caution.

Silver class Drivers Ariel Levi, Sebastian Ogaard and Rocco Mazzola of the Tresor Attempto Racing Team were the surprise winners in their # 66 Audi R8 LMS GT3 EVO II that started 29th.

Serving notice is the Haupt Racing Team (HRT), a Ford customer (along the lines of GM’s customer program) that entered two GT3 EVO Mustangs. The # 64 started on pole and the # 65 started 4th.  Both were damaged in the lap one pileup and scored 54th and 55th.

The original Autodromo Nazionale Monza built in 1921 and situated about 10 miles north of Milan, featured a high-speed banked section, paved in concrete, that led to several fatalities before being abandoned in 1969.  (Dramatized in the1966 movie Grand Prix starring James Garner and Yves Montand)

This year’s race drew a record crowd of 34,000.
