# 3 Corvette wins IMSA GTD Pro Class at Mosport – Part 2 of a HUGE day in Italy and Canada

Sunday’s win on July 9 at Mosport in North America plus clinching the WEC title earlier at Monza in Europe capped off a day for Corvette fans to relish.

Most are surprised that the average 137 mph around the 2.45-mile circuit is faster even than the road course at Daytona.  It takes a ton of courage through the up and downhill blind sweepers that sets this course apart.

Jordan Taylor and Antonio Garcia who qualified fourth, won this 2 hour-40 -minute race based on great execution and by eschewing 2 incidents that set back their GTD PRO class leaders.

The first trouble occurred about halfway when Jules Gounon in the # 79 WeatherTech Racing Mercedes AMG GT3 sent Ross Gunn in the # 23 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Advantage GT3 into the tire wall at turn 8.  It brought out a full course yellow and Gounon served a drive-thru penalty.

Leading from a restart with 70 minutes left, Garcia watched the next damage unfold as Jack Hawksworth in the # 14 the championship-leading Lexus R CF GT3 clashed with Patrick Pilet in the # 9 Porsche 911 GT3R (992) entering turn 1 side-by-side, an over-exuberant move that hardly ever works.

Garcia held off the Porsche with his usual aplomb while the top three cars were now separated by a good four seconds; and with the race ending under caution in the final 2 laps as Ranger Van Der Renger crashed the # 01 GTP Caddy heavily into the tire barrier.

The Pratt & Miller engineers from Canada swapped notes and set-ups in real time all weekend with their counterparts in Italy and vice versa some 3,600 miles and 6 time-zones apart.

Co-operation like this could be problematic when various customer teams start racing the ZO6 GT3 R next year.

The victory at Mosport marked the 126th win all-time for Corvette Racing and the 114th in North America.
