Steve Speers from Bourne TX in his 1959 # 66 Echidna Corvette Special was the top finisher in Group 4 and as expected, several seconds faster than Jim Caudle from Arlington TX in the 1958 # 56 production Corvette owned by SVRA boss Tony Parella.
Bonus coverage: As part of the AUSTIN SPEEDTOUR, Corvettes eligible for vintage racing easily fit in the lesser ranks of the Trans Am Series. J C Meynet won the GT class in this 1998 # 28 C5 Corvette while Keith Michaels in a sister car # 98 carried the flag for his Killer Shrimp Restaurant and Bar located in Marina del Ray CA.
Richard Forsyth won the SGT class in his 2006 # 58 C6 Z06 Corvette prepared by GSpeed, a specialty operation in Cresson TX.
Corvette racing is going strong at the Austin Speedtour while Corvette entries are a rarity at the HSR Daytona Classic 24, overwhelmed by an onslaught of Porsches.
