Corvette hits bottom in GT America series at Watkins Glen
After qualifying 4th, an impact between Mirco Shultis (# 70 Mishumotors Callaway Corvette C7 GT3-R) and Jason Daskalos (# 27 Daskalos Motorsports Audi R8 LMS) in the uphill esses brought out the yellow flag just a few minutes into Saturday’s race.
The car was withdrawn, credited with zero laps while Dascalos recovered to finish 4th in the SRO3 class in the 20-lap race.
Light damage to the # 70 was repaired in time for Sunday’s race by crew on hand from Callaway Competition from Germany.
Looking back, Tommy Milner of the IMSA Corvette Racing Team fielded by Pratt & Miller collided at the same spot on the very first lap in 2019 inflicting more serious damage that took him out of the Sahlen’s 6 hours of Watkins Glen.
George Kurtz (# 04 CrowdStrike/Riley Motorsports Mercedes AMG GT3) won on both Saturday and Sunday.
Shultis again qualified 4th on Sunday and fared a lot better, finishing 4th…until he and Dascalos were served drive-through penalties for passing under yellow caution earlier in the race.
Road America, August 19/21 gotta be better.
