Time to catch up with some familiar faces
It was time to catch up with some familiar faces at the 2022 HSR Mitty, staged every April at Road Atlanta going on 45 years.
In particular we’d like to acknowledge folks who’ve been regulars there like Dave Roberts, Mike Donohue and Clair Schwendeman.
Dave found his 1956 C1 in 2012. It had been hot-rodded by Bill Morrison. Dave restored it back to original trim as # 57 to 1957 specs. That triggered a “bucket-list” tour to tracks across the country while making upgrades along the way.
Dave’s 1971 # 12 was a “rescue dog” that his expert friend Nick Short of CPR in Charlotte turned into a beautiful race-worthy C3.
Same for Mike who found and restored his historic 1963 # 30 (usually wears # 33). Mike has racked up a lot of mileage at Road Atlanta while turning it into arguably the fastest and most advanced C2 on the planet. It includes custom parts designed and engineered by Curt Geaches, former IMSA GTP crew chief.
Clair and his 1969 C3 # 37 are the product of expertise and experience of Duntov Motors (Alan Sevadjian) that went into the build; and the tutelage of Alan’s son Edward to become a very competent racer.
Duntov Motors has likewise transformed the 1963 # 63 of Patrick Sessions since he acquired the car from Ken Hazelton.
Few have made more dramatic improvements than Bill Treffert to his 1960 C1 # 24 he acquired from Ron Nettesheim several years ago. Bill usually accompanies his son Todd Treffert who always seems to run up front in his 1971 Porsche 911 RS and his daughter Dawn Meyers who races a 1960 MGA with RHD.
Michael Crowe appeared at the Mitty for the first time to the best we know in his serious-looking # 88 C3 acquired from Chris Pederson.
Robert Blain is among the privileged to own and race a Corvette built by the acclaimed Pratt & Miller Engineering Company. His 2004 C5 chassis 013 # 64 was never called into service and appears as a C6. Legendary crew chief Dan Binks helped him acquire the car and get acclimated with it.
A newer generation of cars that are easier on the wallet and are easier to maintain has become popular.
For example, Sports 2000, nearly 50 of which turned up as HSR’s featured marque. They may all look alike in the eyes of diehard Corvette fans, but these are pure high-performance race cars from respected names such as Lola, Chevron, Carbir, Crossle, Doran, March, MCR, Reynard, Rotor, Royale, Shannon, Swift, Tiga and Van Diemen.
Adam Saal, HSR Director of PR kindly connected us with Patrick Tremblay who provided the stunning images for which we owe a big thank you.
