A good outing for Callaway Competition at Zandvoort
Marvin Kirchhöfer and Jeffrey Schmidt scored 4th in the # 77 Callaway C7 GT3R Corvette on Sunday July 11 at Zandvoort in the Netherlands by the sea. There are two new banked corners offering more chances to pass: At the Hugenholtz bend behind the paddock and the Luyendyk bend leading into the start/finish.
After a 1st lap incident, Marvin passed the # 63 Lambo Huracan GT3 EVO of Albert Costa. Meat in a sandwich (if you will) behind the # 19 Lambo of Rolf Ineichen, both of the GRT GRASSER RACING TEAM.
Team leader Mike Gramke opted to pit late with just 1 minute left in mandatory 25 min window, hoping to come out 3rd in a re-shuffle.
That and another chance for the podium fell short on a re-start as the race wound down.
Coming fourth is an excellent result nonetheless against a deep field and carrying extra 20 kg weight “success ballast” imposed after Austria.
And still ahead of # 13 Team Zakspeed Mobil Krankenkasse Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Igor Jakob Walilko and former Callaway driver Jules Gounon.
The winner was the # 32 Team WRT Audi R8 LMS GT3 of Weerts and Vanthoor.
Saturday, a day earlier, Jeffrey started 12th and the team was scored 7th when the race was over.
They also opted to pit late following a long caution period to clean up a crash on the first lap.
Marvin placed as high as 10th after the driver change and was awarded 7th after a series of penalties to cars ahead.
The winner was the # 29 Montaplast by Land Motorsport Team Audi R8 LMS GT3 of Ricardo Feller and Christopher Mies.
