Scott Borchetta and his Group 6 Corvette conquer the west
Scott Borchetta in his 1969 Corvette blew away the field in the Group 6/12 feature race at Sonoma Raceway over the April 24-25 weekend. Ditto the following weekend in Monterey 150 miles south at Laguna Seca Raceway.
Borchetta raced his ex - Curt Wetzel FIA Corvette prepped by Dylan Hellman.
Scott’s Big Machine Vodka is both a sponsor of the SVRA and TA2 entries in the Pro Trans Am series under the Parella racing umbrella. The serial entrepreneur from Nashville brings a passion for road racing re-directing a legendary career in the music business.
At Sonoma next quickest was A.C. D’Augustine in his 1965 big block Corvette some 12 seconds behind.
At Laguna Seca next quickest was Chris Springer in his 1965 small block Corvette some 9 seconds off the pace.
Here is # 63 Chad Manista, # 94 Frank Manning, # 8 & 9 Jock Griffith and # 32 Dennis Fitz at Laguna Seca.
And # 55 Doug Manista, # 27 John Anderson, # 57 John Wiggans and # 44 George Wright.
At Sonoma, # 88 Mike Malone won the Group 10 race in his beautiful historic 1988 ex Darin Brasfield Pacific Summit Trans Am Corvette; while # 5 John Goodman raced an equally beautiful historic 1988 ex Wally Dallenbach IMSA GTO built by Protofab (Gary Pratt & Charlie Selix).
Playing Superman at Laguna Seca, # 13 Steve Goldman was 3rd in Group 10 in his 2002 C5 Derhaag GT1 Corvette but finished 3 laps down against stiffer competition in the TA race the same weekend.
As straight axle Corvettes could be on the verge of extinction, Sonoma offered up the 1957 # 43 ex Bob Dye of Russ Uzes and the 1958 # 58 ex Noel Park of Ed Hugo.
