Daniel Keilwitz was still not quite ready so this time the team reached out to Albert Costa, 27 from Spain (with Blancpain Series GT3 experience). Renger van der Zande who delivered at Zandvoort was in the USA with Troy Flis’ # 90 Visit Florida team debuting its IMSA prototype Ligier chassis at Road America in Wisconsin.
On Saturday Jules Gounon qualified the # 77 on the second row, a dry track giving him an edge before rain fell for the rest of the session.
He jumped to 2 nd place at the start but during the driver change, Costa was blocked leaving the pits and fell back to finish 5th.
On Sunday, Albert Costa started 13th. A hard hit in an early scrimmage dropped him back. But he recovered strongly so team owners Ernst Woehr & Giovanni Ciccone agreed that a late pit stop behind the Zackspeed team was the best strategy. The move paid off. The team picked up several positions for Gounon to finish 8th.
Sunday winners were Kelvin Van der Linde & Markus Pommer # 3 Audi R8 for Aust Motorsport.
# 13 RWT Sven Barth and Max Hacklander finished 21st on Sat and a respectable 15th on Sunday.
Results compiled by Wayne Ellwood.
