Solaris Motorsport fields a Corvette in the 2015 GT Open Series

The # 12 ZO6.R GT3 Corvette finished 9th and 7th in its first outing at the Paul Ricard Circuit in France.

The drivers are Francesco Sini, team principal, 33 and Stefano Costantini.  Solaris, based in Pescara Italy landed sponsorship from Italfluid, a major supplier of engineering services and products to companies extracting oil concentrated in North Africa.

The car is pictured above for a shakedown at Adria shortly after Solaris acquired it from Callaway last December.

The International GT Open Series (EUR) begins its 8th season since being spun off by the Spanish GT Championship.  Moving with the trend to GT3 sports cars, the organizers have banned GT1 & GT2 like the Team V8 Corvettes.   Jonny Bens reports that the SRT C6.R GT2 Corvette will compete in the Supercar Challenge driven by Nicolas Vandierendonck and Jeffrey Van Hooydonk.

The entry list at the season opener was just 14 cars given the changeover yet featured some exotic marques:  Ferrari 458 GT3 (5 entries), McLaren 650S (2), Mercedes SLS AMG (2), Lamborghini Gallardo FL02 ( 1), Maserati MC GT3 ( 1), Audi R8 (1) and the Corvette ZO6.R GT3 (1)

Patterned after the ADAC-GT series, winning races is a combination of strategy and good luck.  Races of one hour duration are held on Saturday and Sunday.  Each car is shared by 2 drivers.  Teams must swap drivers near the half-way point.
