Finishing 7th & 9th in GTLM at VIR appears worse than reality heading into final 2 races at CoTA and Road Atlanta
Before the crash! Race preview (video)
Jan Magnussen slid off track after hitting oil in Saturday practice. The # 3 & # 4 crews rushed into action – new engine support cradle, sway bar, suspension, steering column, air jacks, assorted bodywork, body tray, left door and windshield in barely two and a half hours before final qualifying*. Jordan Taylor replaced Magnussen who suffered concussion symptoms, was evaluated at the track medical center and held back from racing on Sunday.
The # 3 (Taylor/Garcia) finished 7th holding on to a 3 point lead in GTLM over the # 93 SRT Viper (Bomarito/Wittner). The # 4 (Gavin/Milner) finished 9th after getting forced off by traffic.
The Daytona Prototype cars were not scheduled at VIR, that class having raced earlier without GTLM appearing at Belle Isle in June.
CoTA next followed by Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta, 10 hour season finale racing into the darkness!
* Only the GTLM Corvette could have been repaired so quickly. Per the experts, Ferrari, Porsche, BMW, Viper way too complex.
