GTLM and DP Corvettes win on final lap re-start

The # 3 GTLM led its class at the 5 hr and 50 minute mark and the # 90 DP was going to finish 2nd when a boneheaded crash brought out the caution signaling a letdown finish under yellow. But track workers cleaned up the mess with just 16 seconds to go for an electrifying final lap. Antonio Garcia in his C7.R held off Marc Goosens in the # 91 Dodge Viper for Corvette Racing Team’s 3rd straight after winning Long Beach and Laguna Seca. Talk about “Balance of Performance”, the fastest lap times of all GTLM cars were within .3 seconds so it came down to running steady and limiting mistakes, Doug Fehan’s proven formula. Prep time was also short following Le Mans.
Richard Westbrook in his Daytona Prototype got a great re-start and used Chevy v8 grunt to literally pick off Alex Brundle’s # 42 Oak Racing Morgan Nissan P1 on the long straight up to the bus stop chicane and held that lead for Spirit of Daytona team’s first win this year.

Factory Corvette Racing Team makes its first appearance and 3rd round of North American Endurance Cup resumes at the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen

The TUDOR United Sports Car Championship returns in full force for the thirty-third running of the Six Hours of the Glen. Fifty-five cars in 4 classes will tackle the legendary 3.42 mile road course in the third round of the Tequila Patron North American Endurance Cup. The previous two rounds were the Rolex 24 at Daytona International Speedway and the 12 Hours of Sebring. The Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, IMSA Prototype Lites, Porsche GT3 Cup and Lamborghini Super Trofeo series support races make for a power packed weekend. The Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen marks the halfway point of the 2014 season. The # 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Corvette driven by Ricky and Jordan Taylor leads in the points standings. Coming off an exciting win at Belle Isle, they hope to carry that momentum into Watkins Glen. “Max the Axe Angelleli” joins the Taylor brothers in their quest to keep the series points lead. The # 5 Action Express Racing duo of Joao Barbosa and Christian Fittipaldi sits a close second in the standings. Barbosa and Fittipaldi dominated last years’ race. Barbosa also won the checkered flag in 2012 driving with Darren Law. The Action Express team will return the # 9 Corvette Prototype this weekend with Burt and Brian Frisselle joined by Gainsco/Bob Stallings Racing driver Jon Fogarty who is no stranger to Watkins Glen. The # 90 Spirit of Daytona Racing is also trying to continue their mid-season surge. A second place finish for Michael Valiante and Richard Westbrook at Belle Isle propelled them to fifth place in the points standings. The team has had some very decent runs at the Glen in the past but has never been able to put together a great finish. The # 31 Marsh Racing Whelen Corvette looks to Watkins Glen as a track that they can turn their season around after very disappointing results at Belle Isle and a disappointing start to their season. Both Boris Said and Eric Curran have had success at the Glen in the past, so there is no doubt that the team has the drivers and equipment to get it done. Guy Cosmo, who drove for the team at Sebring, will return to drive for the team this weekend.
After what seems like an eternity the Corvette Racing factory C7.R machines will return to competition in the TUDOR United Sports Car Championship. A win on May 3 at Laguna Seca was the last time these cars raced in the United States. The team returns from another successful attack of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France, with Antonio Garcia, Jan Magnussen and Jordan Taylor finishing second in the GTE Pro class. Garcia and Magnussen drive the # 3 Corvette this weekend that sits second in the points standings. Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner in the # 4 are third in points. From its inception, the Corvette Racing team as we know it was shut out at the Glen. The team was a victim of racing politics. Before the USCR merger took effect this year, the Corvettes raced in the ALMS series and were by association a rival to the Grand-Am series which was owned by NASCAR and controls Watkins Glen via its affiliate International Speedway Corp. We eagerly look forward to the C7.R Corvettes racing at the Glen.
