Unique Characteristics: Raced Daytona 2nd Continental February 17,1963 and Sebring March 23, 1963. Driven by A.J. Foyt and Jim Hertibise. Car was a DNF at Sebring after an engine failure on lap 84. The car was prepared by Ronnie Kaplan from Nickey Chevrolet. It was raced in 1964 at Sebring/Daytona by Jerry Grant/Skip Hudson as #9 and painted Purple. Later the year, Roy Kumnick also raced it at Road America. It was owned and raced by Todd Osied in 1965. It was owned by Tito Nappi and raced by Kurt Reinold in 1966/1967. It was owned and raced by Jerry Dunbar from 1968 thru 1972 painted White Tod Oseid bought and raced the car for Nickey in 1964-66, when it was painted the famour Nickey "Purple". Bard Boand bought the old Z0-6 racer in 1976, and won the Mid-Western Council of Sports Clubs BP Championship and voted Rookie of the year in 1977. Then went on to SCCA and IMSA to get my FIA licence necessary to run the Sebring 12 hour in 1980. He returned the car to run, 17 years after it's maiden voyage with AJ Foyt, to Sebring, with finishing position better than it's first Sebring race in 1963...finished all 12 hours respectivlely, ahead of several members of the Porsche and Ferrari parade. Bard told us that in 1980 he co-drove with Ray Irwin and Bob Kivala. Then in 1982, Richard Anderson, Bard and Brian Utt took it back to Sebring, now 19 years after it's maiden voyage to Sebring, and kicked Ass again against a factory team parade of exotics from across the pond. Bard then says "THEN the bastards at IMSA outlawed the car by creating an age limitation of cars that could run because they felt that it was embarrassing to IMSA that a car this old could still hold it's own against modern factory iron." The car today is owned by collector Eric Gill in Florida, and was shared with the public at the NCRS Regional Meet in Kissimmee on January 27-29, 2011 by current owner / collector Eric Gill.
